SEEK TO PLEASE THE PEOPLE, NOT ME OR ANY INDIVIDUAL, Onofiok Luke advises LG aspirants

BY VICTOR JOHN

Barr. Onofiok Luke, Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has advised chairmanship hopefuls in Nsit Ubium to plan on leading for the collective interest of people and not to please individuals.

Luke gave the advice Saturday, in Uyo, while addressing youth of the area who paid him a visit in his Uyo residence to present their choices, as it concerns the forthcoming local government elections in the state.

The Speaker said, “you will do well when the people are happy with you. So, don’t seek to please me or any individual, but seek to please the collective people, from the elders, the women, the youth and the students, and I will fall into that collective, forget about me as a person. Put the people first after God."

He warned against disparaging acts against the elders, advising the youth never to subject themselves to being used for such purpose.

His words: “let nobody come and deceive you, it is not our intention to retire any Nsit Ubium elder in politics. We need the elders to carry us to where we are going to. Where the elders will sit to discuss, we will not be there. We need to combine the wisdom of the elders with the energy of the youth for the development of the local government. Please do not let anyone use you to abuse or insult our elders.”

“We have plans laid down to create more avenues outside politics for youth empowerment. The next thing in my plans for the local government is to get young people who are doing business, especially those who are tech-savvy to come and pitch their ideas for us to see, and fund the ones that are impressive and prospective to help them expand their businesses and develop themselves further”, he added.
