GOV OKOWA DID NOT INTERFERE WITH DSIEC FUNCTIONS DURING COUNCIL ELECTIONS - FRED OGHENESIVBE.

Executive Assistant on Communications to His Excellency the Governor of Delta State, Dr Barrister Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe has passionately appealed to leaders and supporters of Delta State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to stop pointing accusing fingers at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Gov Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa over their monumental poor performances at the just concluded Council elections in the state.

He made the appeal while speaking during a live political programme on NTA ASABA, Thursday 13th January 2018. According to Oghenesivbe, APC Delta knowingly prepared to fail which is why it cannot blame either PDP or the Governor for the party's failure at the just concluded Council elections.

"It is shameful for the APC and its leaders to cry publicly over an election that was free, fair and transparent. We 've never had it this good in terms of transparency in the conduct of council elections in the state.

"Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) provided a level playing ground for all candidates and had to reschedule elections in Ethiope East and Ughelli North LGAs as requested by party agents and leaders of PDP and APC but some hours to the election, APC chickened out of the political contest thereby disenfranchising their members and supporters in the electoral process.

"PDP and its leaders worked very hard campaigning massively throughout the 25 LGAs well ahead of the elections while the APC and its leaders were busy doing nothing. We kept reminding them to start campaigning but unfortunately kept debt ears until few days to the election before APC organised something like town hall campaign meetings in few communities in the state.

"Electoral victory is seriously tied to grassroots mobilization of eligible voters and nothing more; APC DELTA failed to do the needful and on the other hand erroneously dreamt to win without connection to eligible voters. It's wrong to want to win elections without strong connection to the people.

"GOV Okowa did not in any way interfere with DSIEC assigned responsibilities as can be seen from the credible results declared. Looking at the results, you find that APC got exactly what it deserved in terms of weak preparations for the council elections," Oghenesivbe added.
