IMO LGA ELECTION WILL BE FREE, FAIR AND CREDIBLE- GOVERNOR OKOROCHA

Imo State governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has said that the LGA election scheduled to hold across the State on 14th July, 2018, will be free, fair and credible and charged all those interested not to entertain any fears as the election will provide an opportunity for those who feel they are acceptable enough among their people to test their popularity.

The governor who spoke during a meeting he held with aspirants under the APC platform was responding to an appeal by a lady who complained that she will want the governor to intervene in her LGA and prevail on leaders of her LGA to adopt her as the sole candidate. The governor while responding commended the lady for keeping faith with the Rescue Mission political family, but however, informed her that as a true democrat, he will encourage everyone to canvass for votes among Party members in order to secure victory in the primaries and also sell their candidature to the people in order to win the main election.

The governor who said that he will not even intervene in choosing who will emerge as a councillor in his Ogboko ward, said that everyone who is eligible to contest should feel free to purchase the forms and work hard to mobilize voters to vote for them.

"'If you are popular among Party members, you will definitely win the Party nomination, and if you are popular among the people, you will be sure to win the main election. I hate manipulation and I will not encourage it in anyway. Go ahead and campaign vigorously. Convince the people why you are the best candidate to win the chairmanship or the councillorship seat in your ward. Your political value before me and the entire Rescue Mission political family rises, if you are able to win elections on your own without anyone assisting you to tilt the process."

Meantime, more than 1000 candidates have purchased their nomination forms from the ruling All Progressives Congress, to participate in the election on the Party's platform. More than 30 opposition Parties are said to have nominated candidates for the same election across the State. Political Parties who have declined to participate in the LGA election are those who have owned up to their unpopularity in the State and are therefore afraid that it would be a waste of time, standing in an election against Governor Okorocha's APC, because the governor has through his sterling performances and pro-people policies and programs won the hearts of majority of Imo electorate. It is the analysis of these featherweight opposition Parties that any political Party backed by governor Okorocha would sweep to victory in all the wards across the State.
